Success for the customer: advanced photography and film technology, professional and customised advice on the choice of camera system, cost savings thanks to the use of low-cost automation
Storm Petrel Studios LTD specialises in underwater filming in the field of nature films. For the so-called "Ex Situ" film recordings, the exciting world of animal life is to be depicted in great detail using special techniques and higher magnifications. In order to ensure consistent resolution quality at high magnifications, the camera system must have an extremely modular design and be able to adapt to different film movements.
The problem
In the field of animal filming, and especially when filming in aquarium containers, very special demands are placed on the film technology. In order to be able to record exactly THE right moment in the best quality, the resolution and stability must always be consistent at very high magnifications. This requires high-quality actuators and motors, as well as a motor control system with which recordings can be prepared and carried out quickly. can be prepared and carried out quickly. In addition, the recording environment changes for each image; aquariums have different shapes and sizes. For this reason, the camera systems must be modular and simple in design. A modular gantry system would be an ideal solution. However, linear systems in the film industry are often cost-intensive or do not achieve the degree of modularity required for this application.
The solution:
The perfect automation solution was developed in collaboration with the Low Cost Automationteam from igus® UK. The design of the room portal was developed using drawings and revision procedures. With as few components as possible and low costs, a modular camera system was developed that fulfils requirements such as high resolution and camera payloads.
